Natural Ways For Dealing With Anxiety

Posted on July 6, 2009 by Naomi

Anxiety is a reaction often associated with stress, illness, or even treatment. During an anxiety attack, a person feels overwhelming nervousness, tension, fear, forgetfulness, and panic. Although people experience anxiety as a normal part of life, true anxiety attacks are much different. For instance, if you were interviewing for a new job, you might feel a little anxious or apprehensive but this is different from true anxiety in which the above symptoms take over. If you find yourself being faced with anxiety often or if you have an anxiety attack that persists, you want to see your doctor. In the meantime, remember that anxiety is treatable. If the situation is serious, your doctor may recommend prescription medication such as Klonopin, but before you get to that point, you might consider a number of natural ways for dealing with anxiety. With this, not only can you bring the anxiety attack under control but also help prevent the attacks in the future, which would be the ideal solution. For starters, when you feel an anxiety attack coming on, find a quiet room or place where you can sit and relax. There, use what is called imagery, which is where you allow your mind to...

Atkins Fans Claim False Victory

Posted on May 6, 2009 by Vicki

Last week the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that caused low-carb diet fans to raise their arms in victory. However, a closer look at the study should put a damper on their festivities. The study followed about 82,000 nurses over a 20-year period and looked at rates of heart disease amongst those that ate either a low-carb high protein or a high-carb diet. The conclusions were that the rates of heart disease did not differ between the two groups. This led to all kinds of media claims that high protein, Atkins-like diets were good for the heart. The Real Conclusions Well, there are several problems here. The first and most blatant one is that a finding of equal risk for the high protein diet is certainly not the same as the claim that it is heart healthy . This is just over-hyping the findings. The second major problem is that the study did not separate out good carbs from bad carbs in the group comparisons. So, nurses that ate a lot of white breads and cakes would be put in the same group as those that ate high fiber, whole grain carbohydrate sources. This is a major confound that cannot be overlooked. I have talked about the glycemic index in previous...

Little Known Natural Cures For Everyday Health Issues

Posted on March 25, 2009 by Wanda

Natural cures for everyday Health Issues takes many forms. We call them Grandmas old remedies or natural cures, but they are cures without using medications. Do you know how to stop a baby s hiccups. A little bit of sugar on your finger will take them away after he s done sucking off the sugar. Another one for hiccups for someone older is to try to scare them out of them, sipping water from a glass upside down, and then there s my personal favorite. Taking a big, deep breath and holding it until you either turn blue, pass out or your body forces you to breath. And that s what it does; you can t voluntarily hold your breath to turn blue. Some other old remedies I remember from living with my Grandma. Do you have a cold. Then the best thing is to do a sink full of dirty dishes and make the water as hot as you can stand it. Personally, I would just rather go sit in the shower. Have you ever had vapor rubbed on your chest and covered with a piece of flannel. Been there, done that lots of times. Our cough syrup was honey and lemon juice. Headaches also have many natural cures you can try. Exercise is a good idea, a brisk walk will get your blood circulating, release contracted...
